Salazar In Spin-Control Mode

Alberto Salazar is in spin-control mode after playing a part in what turned out to be a sticky sequence of events that caused himself, Adam Goucher and the USATF some PR headaches prior to the men’s 10000m final at the US Olympic Trials. If you’re not familiar with this story, here’s some background. Here’s the money quote:
“Contrary to the conspiracy theories where people thought I was trying to keep runners out of races, I was actually trying to get them in,” Salazar said in the Runner’s World interview. “I was begging John Chaplin. I was telling him that we were going to get killed over this. I wish the rules had allowed more runners into the 5,000 final.”
The USATF’s John Chaplin must have some kind of power if Alberto Salazar has to go begging to him. Salazar doesn’t strike me as the begging type. Here’s Chaplin’s bio over at USTFCCCA. [Source]
